Bloom with Purpose: Time to Reassess and Realign

Over the past week, my morning and evening walks have been filled with the scent of apple blossoms and lilacs. The trees in our neighborhood have burst into bloom, and I couldn’t help but stop, breathe it in, and thank our Creator for all He’s given us to enjoy.

What caught my attention, though, was how the blossoms seemed more fragrant at night. Curious, I looked into it and found there’s no scientific reason the scent intensifies at dusk. The difference isn’t in the trees—it’s in the environment. With less wind, noise, and distraction, our senses are more focused.

It reminded me how clarity often comes not from doing more, but from quieting the noise around us. The same is true in leadership.

As a leader, you likely began the year with bold goals and clear direction. But as the months unfold, shifting realities often require us to pause and reassess.

Spring offers a timely invitation to step back and ask:

  • What is growing well?
  • What should be pruned?
  • What might need to be replanted with stronger roots (greater clarity)?

Too often, we stick to plans simply because they’re already in motion. But wise leadership recognizes when it’s time to realign. Just as the seasons shift, so too should our strategies.

And as Christian leaders, our first step is to seek God’s guidance:

  • Lord, what changes are You calling us to make—if any?
  • How can I serve You more faithfully and steward this business with greater wisdom?
  • Who are You calling us to serve in this season?

For many of the flowering bushes in our Minnesota gardens, the best time to prune for optimal growth next spring is just after the colorful, fragrant blossoms are spent. Perhaps this is the time for your team to reassess your business goals, realign with the mission God has entrusted to you, and optimize growth.

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
